What hypnotherapy is... and what it isn't...
As a Certified Hypnotherapist and RTT Therapist, I am often asked what hypnotherapy and Rapid Transformational Therapy actually are and what they involve, so I have put together a little post to clear up some common myths and provide a clearer understanding.
Any questions, please ask; I'd love to hear from you - you´ll find my contact details at the bottom of the page.
Common misconceptions:
- That hypnosis is like stage hypnosis where people do things for entertainment:
Thankfully absolutely not! In a therapeutic setting you have all the control - the focus is on helping you feel safe, relaxed, and ready to make positive changes in your life and work towards achieving your goals.
- That RTT works instantly, like magic:
Whilst RTT is indeed rapid, effective, and is known for getting fast results often for long standing and deeply embedded issues, it still requires the client being committed to their own growth and sometimes a few sessions to see successful lasting results. Rapid insights don’t always equate to instant results.
- Rapid Transformational Therapy is just like any other therapy:
Unlike traditional 'talking therapy' which can take months, or even years, RTT works quickly by getting straight to the root cause of your issue fast, saving you time and money. It draws on techniques from hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, CBT, NLP, and neuroscience to quickly identify and address the issue in between just one and three sessions. RTT finds out the ‘why', extracts the limiting beliefs followed by new hard wiring via the transformational recording. It will give you empowerment and set you free!
- Only certain types of people can experience hypnosis:
Actually, most people can experience and gain incredible results if they are open and willing to participate in the process and approach it as a collaboration.
- Hypnosis is only useful for a few specific issues like quitting smoking or weight loss:
In reality, it can be applied to a wide variety of challenges such as depression and low mood, insomnia, anxiety, low confidence and self esteem, fear of exams/driving tests, addictions (nicotine, alcohol, drugs, shopping, social media, gambling etc), panic attacks, imposter syndrome, self sabotage, fears and phobias, motivation and procrastination, PTSD, OCD, perfectionism, relationship issues, fear of public speaking, stress and overwhelm, stress related health Issues such as IBS, pain relief, migraines, dermatitis, and eczema, for grief, money mindset blocks and even for improving communication, public speaking, sports performance... amongst many other things!
- It’s a one size fits all approach:
It is in fact extremely personalized and tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals. Every client is different — some experience big shifts in just one session, while others benefit from having a few. We’ll always discuss what feels best for you.
- I’ll maybe lose control under hypnosis:
Certainly not. You are always in control. Hypnosis is simply a deeply relaxed, focused state (like daydreaming) where your subconscious mind is more open to positive suggestions. You can’t be made to do or say anything you don’t want to — and you’ll remember everything that happened afterwards. You’ll always be fully aware and in control and you will only accept suggestions if you feel it's in your interest to do so.
- Hypnotherapy isn't safe:
Hypnotherapy is safe for most people, but it isn’t recommended for certain conditions like epilepsy or some severe mental health disorders. I always check suitability beforehand to make sure it’s right for you.
- There´s no difference between traditional hypnotherapy and Rapid Transformational Therapy:
Hypnotherapy is a broad term for many hypnosis based approaches, so not all hypnotherapy is RTT. RTT is a specific, structured, therapeutic method combining elements of hypnotherapy with other techniques. It has a strong emphasis on finding and removing the root cause of your issue very quickly with specific techniques to reframe the limiting beliefs, resulting in profound results in a very short time
